He’s gone. The hammer, Duncan Donuts, The Sheller. Shelley Duncan, as we all know, was outrighted to triple-A a while back and opted for free agency. Now he’s signed with the Cleveland Indians, where he’ll likely hit 59 homers, bat .398, and slug well over .700. Okay, really though, Shelley’s a great pickup for the Indians. He can hit for power, has a decent batter’s eye, and hasn’t ever gotten the major league shot he deserves. He’s a nice low-budget option for the Indians and their generally ugly roster.

The Red Sox have signed Adrian Beltre. Now, they’re looking into a Mike Lowell-Luis Castillo swap. Not sure I understand the reason for a deal like that, but I’m just pointing out that the Red Sox have Dustin Pedroia at second and Jed Lowrie as a backup…and the Mets have David Wright at third, but could conceivably use Lowell at first..I guess. Still doesn’t make much sense to me.

On top of all that, it looks like Matt Holliday is close to re-signing with the Cardinals. So that’s my Hot Stove notes for the day, no new yankee-specific rumblings though. If I hear some, I’ll let you all know.
